Words Unspoken

Sometimes, I feel like it’s a breath of fresh air when I read a post that bares all, saying the things we are all thinking but afraid to voice out loud. This is going to be one of those posts, well sorta :P. Today we dare the topic of dark underarms.

I know for those that have dark underarms, you can sometimes feel embarrassed to get dressed in that sleeveless top or have the freedom of raising your arms without getting a weird stare from your neighbor. First things first, you need to understand it is not a disease and therefore do not need to spend a tone of money getting that part of your body sorted.

Dark underarms are a result of exposure to certain elements. This could be like a reaction to shaving, hair removal creams, excessive sweating, poor ventilation of the underarms, dead skin accumulation and perhaps the use of alcohol-based deodorants and antiperspirants.

Now that you know how it is caused, why don’t we jump into how to solve the problem. Remember like all things skin related, it takes time so patience is key. Do not abandon the regimen just because you do not see immediate results:

  1. Olive Oil + Sugar – Olive oil is very good for moisturising and soothing the skin. I know…your scared to smell like a fried egg {my initial sentiments} but you will grow to love it once you notice how radiant your skin looks.
    • Mix a bit of olive oil & sugar to make a scrub
    • Massage the mixture onto your underarms.
    • Give it around 10 – 15 minutes
    • Wash off with warm water
    • Repeat a few times a week
  2. Baking Soda – Believe it or not, baking soda is one of the solutions to the problem. It not only helps to exfoliate but also to unclog the skin pores which is one of the causes of dark underarms.
    • Make a paste using baking soda & water
    • Massage the mixture onto your underarms
    • Give it around 10 – 15 minutes
    • Wash off with warm water
    • Repeat a few times a week
  3. Lemon – We all know that lemon is a bleaching agent thus perfect for the job.
    • Rub the lemon juice onto the underarms
    • For a more effective approach, you can mix a little sugar
    • Leave the juice on for a while and wash off.

The key to getting rid of the dark underarms is exfoliation. Keep at it and before you know it, you will be confident in that sleeveless blouse.

Have you tried any of the remedies above? What is your experience?

Tried waxing. The first time it hurt real bad. But after that, it was as easy as a breeze
